What is the difference between GEO and SEO?
SEO aims to rank a page in a list of results so someone clicks; GEO aims to get your brand mentioned and recommended inside an AI-generated answer, where there is often no click at all. They share the same technical base — crawlable content, authority, structured data — but the measured outcome differs: rankings and clicks in one case, mentions and framing in the other.
What still works the same
- A crawlable, indexable, fast site.
- Clear content that answers concrete questions.
- Authority: mentions, reviews and external sources.
- Structured data describing your product and pricing.
What changes
- The unit of work moves from the keyword to the whole question.
- There are no ten positions — there is one answer naming two or three brands.
- Much of the traffic disappears even as brand influence grows (zero-click search).
- Tracking means asking the assistants, not reading a ranking report.
In practice SEO is not replaced; it gains a measurement and content layer built for answers.
